Pre order discount 25%.  Who goes that deep?   I usually get 10%.

Bryant,

Lionel only allows its dealers to advertise a 10% discount so if you pre-order on their website you will only get the 10% discount. Instead call them and ask “ what is your best price for a select item” most will have a better discount than the 10% if they don’t be prepared to say “no thank you” and call another dealer. Keep track of their best prices and place your pre-order with the lowest best price order over the phone (its a good idea to also ask the name of the person who gave you the best prices) If they say the 10% price is the best they can do tell them thats not good enough and move on. When I ordered the New Hope set I did it through a local hobby store in Delaware (East coast). I did walk out of a store in Virginia  as they said they only sell at list price. They did not need my business my mother taught me how to shop.

I will be celebrating my 70th birthday this year so I don’t really need any new trains which makes it a lot easier to walk away from a bad deal.

I think Lionel may have increased its discount structure for dealers. Legacy locomotives we’re only available at a 10% discount to consumers from MSRP for quite a few years. Now some dealers are offering 15% off. And passenger cars are 25% off. I think this is a change.

I think you're right. I thought either my dealer is the best dealer or something has changed. The discount was more than I expected and caused me to most likely place an order here in the next few days.

As a mostly conventional operator with a sprinkling of Lion Chief + and LC 2.0 in the mix, not much in the catalog for me. But I usually expect that so am never that disappointed.

I have really enjoyed my first Lion Chief 2.0 loco (0-6-0t switcher) and was looking forward to more. The Amtrak locos caught my eye initially but I'll have to think about it. One question is why not offer these with matching passenger cars? Or even as a set?

Bottom line is I'll likely wait for for 2022, Vol. 1 and hopefully a more robust selection.

Someone mentioned a few pages back that it was mentioned during the stream that matching passenger cars would be produced next year I think. I hope they do!

I'm not ordering anything. The last order I placed was back in 2018 for the Legacy Challenger Engine, Caboose, and boxcar 6-packs (all 4 sets). In the two years that passed, I only received the Engine and Caboose, then finally word that the boxcars would not be produced.  While nothing was "paid" for the boxcars, it is disappointing that I do not have the the "full set" that I had envisioned running on my layout.

I took a full look at the catalog last night around 12AM. I didn't comment as I was a little tired. I have more looking to do yet. I think one thing is for sure that #90 in the all black Strasburg (1990's) paint scheme will be the one I get if I am remembering correctly. I thought at first the red roof and red tender with the painted border around Strasburg was the one I was going to get but I looked back at my photos from 2016. The rest of the catalog I still have to take a look at a few things. Might pick up a UP caboose(can never have enough cabooses). The passenger cars look nice but I'll have to think about those a bit while looking up some information as well. Not sure about the rest which is always the case when you think about things a while. See what I come up with.

I noticed they have Legacy SW1200s in this volume 2. When I go to Lionels website the description states they have whistle steam? The catalog does not state this. Im wondering which is correct. This happened when I preordered my Camelback from volume 1 and Lionels website stated they had blow down steam. I called Lionel and they stated that it was an error and corrected the description on their website immediately. I'm thinking this is the same situation but I havent contacted them.

Sorry if you noticed I posted this in another post but realized it pertained possibly more to this one.

Lionel has this problem whenever they release a new catalog, they just copy and paste the features of one locomotive to all of the engines cataloged. After releasing the 2021 V1 catalog, all of the engines were listed with having the features of the 2-10-10-2 (whistle steam, swinging bell, steam blowdown effect, etc.). The best bet is to go by what is is physically in the catalog.

Agreed.... Just going by the description of features that were stated on Lionels website. Now I know to go by the catalog description and not Lionels website like RJI mentioned. I'm just a smoke person so I look for those features.

They make mistakes there too (as have all of the manufacturers at some point or another).  Inevitably this will lead to the familiar arguments over what was made and what features it had in the collectors market 50 years from now, LOL.

I agree with your sentiment though.  It would be a good idea for someone at Lionel to review the items that are added to the website so the customer knows what they’re supposed to get when they open the box.  Since no one is going to reprint a catalog, the website should be the final word in the digital age.
