I purchased a 2466WX tender for my 224 at York knowing it was going to need the usual servicing.  So, it was disassembled, the usual components cleaned and lubed, the brush & spring assemblies replaced and the wiring replaced from the pick up rollers to the soldering lug.  Then tested it without the shell installed.  It whistled great.  I reinstalled the shell and placed it on the track one more time and applied power to the track.  I could hear a low hum/buzz that reminds me of the hum/buzz you typically hear from cycling an e-unit on a locomotive.

I did look in the Greensburg maintenance book to see if there was a listing for this in the repair/troubleshooting and haven't found anything yet.  Could it be the WSR-1 relay requires replacement?  Any guidance would be appreciated.

If it matters or not, this assembly has the metal whistle housing.

Roger1,  I will be taking another look at it tonight for that.  I will even try turning out the lights to see if something shows up.  Of the six whistling tenders I have, this is the first {and so far only one} doing this.  I will disassemble it again tonight {after the lights out check to see if I am missing a short somewhere} and de-solder the original assembly wiring to see if a wire is shorting out.

Thanks for the lead.

ADCX Rob, I tried the other transformers with no difference.

After removing the relay, I found that it seems lose in the mount.  I can rotate the copper rings/washers where the magnetic is at the bottom. I thought they might be threaded and tried to tighten them with my fingers, but to no avail. there was a 'snug' point that it would reach, so I stopped there, reassembled everything and tried it again. Still whistles great and the hum/buzz is far less noticeable.  I do have another relay I will try in the coming days and make an update.
