I have a legacy Frisco SD-40-2 that has out of service for almost 2-3 years, it has been sitting at a service center for that time due to issues sourcing the part. I am being told that the motherboard is the problem. The engine does not move or respond to any command including reset, also there are no sounds and the smoke unit does not activate. The engine just sits there with its lights on and nothing more. I was told motherboard was the problem, it Lionel only has the RCMC aboard listed on their site. I can acquire both parts at the moment and I am just curious which is the proper one to pick up as I want this engine repaired as soon as possible at this point.

Each RCMC is programmed for specific locomotive. You must get the one that matches your current model. What’s the Lionel product number of the locomotive?
Lionel 6-34786. I contacted and they have the part I just want to make sure I am ordering the correct board.
Well according to the part breakdown the RCMC is part #47 691RCMC175 That’s what I would go with I don’t know where the other number came from. The RCMC is the closest this has to a “motherboard”
Perfect, thank you. That’s what I was leaning towards and just wanted some advice.
There is no "motherboard" in new Legacy stuff, the RCMC is the board. With your symptoms, it sure sounds like the RCMC is the issue.
