Uh, generally speaking, L, M and A already tend to offer RS with multiple numbers. At least on the better-to-best products. All multiple car sets come with uniquely numbered pieces.

====Oh - I looked at the ad (when in doubt, read the instructions) - now I understand - not just unique within the set, but unique within the production run. OK. Good. The length of the car (14.75") is very long - must include the couplers.

Good Day D500,

Yes,  unique numbers within the production run is what I meant.  Thanks for rewording it. For example,  if Lionel, MTH or Atlas offered their hoppers with unique numbers you could buy 12, 18, 24 hoppers at one time.................the result....... you now have your grain train! Or perhaps buy 6 coal hoppers and then by another 6 or 12 coal hoppers in 3 or 4 months. Now you have your coal unit train. I think this feature would present increased sales.

Prior to MTH offering two 6 car sets of freight cars, all with individual road numbers, I would purchase 6 or 8 C&O 2-bay coal hoppers at a time, and then have the road numbers changed prior to weathering. Ever since MTH began offering two different 6-car sets of C&O 2-bay coal hoppers, all with different road numbers, many years ago, I eventually got to my goal of a 55 car C&O coal train.
