Hello all,
i have a Tmcc berkshire that has ran flawless for years, now the tender coupling releases for no reason.
i have 5 othere Tmcc trains that run around my track with no coupling issues, that tells me that the track is ok?
I'm entering retirement now and I want take on my own train repairs, just need a nudge in the right direction.

First off, try to determine if the electrocoupler is activating, or if the coupler is simply being pulled open.
Run the loco with the sound off and listen for the "buzz" of the elctrocoupler activation.
If you decide that the electro coupler is in fact activating,install a 1 mfd capacitor across the electro coupler circuit in the tender.I was advised to do this by a forum member and it fixed the problem.I bought a bunch of them and I would be happy to send you one if you need it.Nick
You can also open up the tender and unplug the coupler. Now, if it opens, it's a mechanical issue, if it doesn't, it's electrical.
If it's electrical, try Nick's solution, if it's mechanical, I'd start by using some dry lube on it, that sometimes helps them not "walk" open.
