I may be mistaken, but I don't believe Lionel ever made a GG1 with traction tires.  There's one advertised on Ebay, 

"Lionel 6-38303 Pennsylvania GG1 #2340 Post War Conventional Classics 2008".  In looking at the pictures presented by the seller, it's clear that it "had" traction tires at one time.

Thanks Rob.  I thought that was the case, but couldn't recall what year.  I bought an 8753 tuscan five stripe version from the original Nicholas Smith, down town.  It had the nylon gears.  It didn't take very long for them to fail.  A fellow in Horsham, Pa, George Shreibner, if I have his name correct, did the repairs on it, installing metal gears.  I think that was in 1979.
