Blue Streak,

Just in case you aren't aware, the Lionel Dash 9 isn't really a Dash 9.  It's more of a hybrid between a Dash 8 and a Dash 9.  Some of the vent screening is the easiest giveaway.  For example, the long screen on the engineer's side hood just behind the cab is appropriate for a Dash 8, while on the conductor's side it's more or less right for a Dash 9 (the issue is the single diamond-shaped paneling just ahead of it is  single panel but on the real Dash 9 it has two panels.  The other issue is at least with the SP version, the prototype has the ditch lights mounted on top of the walkway above the front pilot, while the Lionel version has them mounted below the walkway.

There are other discrepancies but those are the primary ones.  MTH's versions of the Dash 9 they've released since 2000 are much more accurate to prototype.  But again, all of this only depends if those modelling issues are important to you or not.

John,

I know, all that you mention is true, I researched them also. That is why I did not order any last time. But I wanted to see and hope something changed. I would buy 4 or 5 of them if they were correct, but may get only 1. I thought about waiting on the trainman dash8's but that might be a long time.

Joe

This is now more about getting to operate DASH 9s for these railroad with all the Legacy features than 100% accurate details for each railroad.

If somebody bought the same railroad scheme or railroad name DASH 9 with TMCC about 5 to 10 years ago, now that DASH 9 will most likely not operate with the two new editions of DASH 9s in full Legacy mode.

Until Lionel advertises it as "new tooling" or similar in the catalog, I would say not to count on it.  They've been releasing the same Dash 9 for at least a decade.

Not where I'm concerned.  If hypothetically there were two versions of the same locomotive, one that was very close to prototype accuracy with TMCC versus and the other less accurate but with Legacy for example, I'd take the TMCC version.

In this case, MTH has the more accurate Dash 9 with DCS, and I'd take that over the Legacy version.

It must have been a big cost cutting measure or an oversight to not correct the GE DASH 9 mistakes or compromises BEFORE releasing this many new railroad names and schemes in one catalog.

It should have been treated as an all new LEGACY release, like the NS ES44AC series, not just a reissue.

Are they just getting by financially on the diesels, so they can not afford to make corrections for a LEGACY edition of the GE DASH 9?
