yes
I have received 4ea. ES44 engines, and every one had the orange hoses broken off. In every case the engine had too much movement in the foam protection allowing them to move and break the hoses. Replacement non breakable hoses can be made of wire with orange insulation which works great.

i ended up ordering a new pilot. if i’m not mistaken i’ve never taken one of these apart before but looks like the pilot is held in by a screw, and from what i can barley see it looks like the screw is loose, causing the pilot to sag. compared to a bnsf 7695 es44 i have the bnsf looks tighter. so i will replace and see for sure.
be careful taking this apart i tried to do what your going to be doing on a metal Es44c and had to send it back to Lionel.
the hoses should have been made in plastic as an attachable piece

why did you have a hard time?
because it's really tight in there with wiring cables and electronics, i had to remove a board to get at a screw and replaced the board in the wrong slot as there are no keys or null slots to prevent that.
Started up the engine with a loud SNAP and smokey POOFF!!
i ordered a new pilot but i may just end up selling it. i purchased a visionline hybrid this morning (which is what i’ve been wanting for a while). so i may just get rid of this one and sell as is with the pilot included.
