So doing home layout tours is both fun and a little stressful since something always goes sideways...at least a lot of times for me. So while running my downstairs layout a visitor noticed the flashing cab light on my Lionel GP9 Northern Pacific that was running. I could see the night, her of blinks at first so we went on running and after one derailment and some other fun Ingot around later to checking the engine and it was then3 blinks of smoke motor death.

Now that tours are done tonight I decided to take a look. First off I really like this design since I can remove the shell top where the smoke stacks are and remove the t then get the smoke fluid right into the smoke unit packing bowl. No drip and no fuss. Upon further inspection I also saw that the bracket with 2 screws hold the smoke unit and bracket to the frame of the engine. Easy to pull out and service with no shell removal. I really like this and a short time later a new smoke motor was in and everything is working perfect again.

Insure wish Lionel would use this type of construction more often since it makes fluid fill and servicing so much easier.
