While I did not know there was an option for screen time out, my problem is usually that about 1 in every 5 running sessions, I'll touch a button and the whole LCD goes black, then very slowly fades off. Once the LCD has forced itself completely off, I am able to turn it back on, but it is definitely annoying.

is yours set up to stay on longer then 15 minutes? I set mine for one hour.

That shouldn't be an issue though.  The backlight should come back on whenever you do something on the remote such as change the speed or blow the whistle.

I just had to send mine back to Lionel for a weird keypad issue.  They exchanged it with a repaired but obviously used Cab-2 (mine was brand new when I sent it in).  My old one did seem tougher to turn on though, I really had to push down hard on the power button to get it to come on.  The "new" one seems to take a more gentle touch

Ken

I've had the keypad issue and got one replaced with a slightly used one. I've also investigated the CTC button issue. Some of the surface mount switches under that exterior push button (there are actually two of them and both get pushed) are problematic in the latest batch of CAB 2s. On mine, one of the switches did not return after pushed very well. I loosened it up a bit and it is tolerable now. I still do have to push a little harder on the CTC though. I bought a bag of a hundred of those SMT switches for around 4 bucks from China (free shipping) and may change them out when Lionel finally gets tired of fixing these things for free.
