Anybody know what the correct smoke resistors are on the Lionel 2131440 Legacy Camel Back?
I measured 9 ohm and 11 ohms. The reason I'm looking inside this dual smoke unit is because when I hook the unit up, I've been getting erratic behavior on the engine. At first I thought it was something wrong with the railing/antenna, but I re-soldered the two rails. The engine runs fine forward and reverse WITHOUT the top body on, and no connection to the smoke unit. BUT, as soon as I connect all the plugs (lights and smoke unit), and then put the top body back on now I have NO forward or reverse and the cab light blinks. If I do NOT hook up the smoke unit, the engine runs fine. If you look at the two photos, you can see one resistor that is black with baked on smoke fluid, and the other doesn't look good either.
I have been having trouble lately trying to turn on the smoke unit from my Cab2 remote. I sometimes have to move the remote right next to the engine to turn it on. I was accepting this inconvenience but now the situation has deteriorated to the point where the engine doesn't even MOVE with the smoke unit attached.
I went on the Lionel site, but all they have is the COMPLETE smoke unit $$$$$!!
Note: the wadding was also blackened, so I simply turned it over. (I KNOW this is caused by running the unit DRY- my fault.
So, I'm guessing there might be something wrong with the resistors. But, could it be the motors?
