After about 15 years of my 22x30 layout basicully sitting idol and my retiring from dairy farming three years ago though still farming I've finally got  back to my layout. My question is I have a lot of the different milk cars with the tanks inside that were produced by Lionel in the 2000-2010 period. Is their a list of all the different ones produced in that period and after? Havn't been on the OGR forum much at all in the last 15 years though I was a regular before I've got a little catching up to do. Thanks Lon

I’ve been on here a long time and remember the name. Welcome back. To answer your question. I don’t know of a list. But you haven’t missed much in 15 years in the way of cars. There was a lull for a few years before they were offered again.  Then it took about 4 or more years to produce as there was problems with tooling and the supplier. When they finally made it to market. The trucks were not of the same quality as the previous runs and were plagued with coupling and de railing issues. There were also a few custom runs done by METCA and others and one car that was only available in a B&M set.

I’m a milk train junkie. While it’s nice to have a colorful train with many different cars. Milk trains were very regional as far as their consists. I model the Rutland. The one milk train was their big revenue maker. All the cars were going to New York City in it’s heyday. Pretty much all were either Sheffield Farms or Borden’s.

Kalmbach offered a Excellent book a few years back on Milk Trains. Covering all aspects of how it was done throughout the country.
