Looks like Ryan and Dave said this will have the kinematic drawbar feature, so that's another plus for this locomotive!

On the no. 520 model in the set, they said it it WILL have the prewar look, but with the doghouse tender. Honestly, I think I'd prefer that look the most, even though the price of the set is a bit high.

but LOOK at what you get with the set,

  • a Railsounds boxcar
  • a working trolley car.

With a preorder price below the MSRP, you might be happy what what you get!

Agreed, that's what did it for me.  And not even so much the trolley, but the RS boxcar is also lettered for US Navy, typical for weapons depot, not many out there. Will go nicely with the yellow US Navy switcher/calf coming out from MTH (Railking).

I would be highly interested in this as a custom run. Prewar look, red cab roof/tender deck, and doghouse tender.

I'm also curious if there will a custom run on this or anything else in the catalog(not that most anything would be anything I would buy). This would be the week o would imagine that the pitch of a custom run would get the green light from Lionel. Typically whomever is considering doing a custom will pitch it and hopefully it gets the okay you can do it if.... reply.

I think that the L1's and the Mogul's would probably be the best ones to do a run(and maybe some rolling stock or such). It will be interesting to see if anything pops up this week from anyone. I considered sending a message over to Mr. Muffin's, but realized if he was in the works, this week should be where he would announce. If nothing pops up, I'll drop a line this weekend to see what he says.

I'm thinking more and more I may be ordering the prewar L1.  I haven't been keeping up and was surprised to learn that Lionel  now has some of the MTH tooling....  Any chance Lionel ended up with the Premier MTH PRR I1 decapod tooling as well???  Cause if that made it into next years catalog, I would probably be all over it......

The only people that know what tooling Lionel got are those working for Lionel and whoever from MTH was involved in the sale of the tooling.

Unlike Atlas, Lionel isn't letting on what they got.

To be quite frank - we don't even know what the terms of the sale were. It could be that Lionel only got rights to the tooling to make a few runs and not a full on sale. Until someone talks who's in the know, it's all 100% speculation or at best, hearsay.

Attempting to discover if any MTH products have been sold in 2 Rail version since Mike  closed and reopened with the new version, not before when MTH was going full tilt.

Your question was past tense, and since you quoted the question about whether Lionel has commented on offering them, I thought you were asking if any even could be based on what was sold.

The answer to the question for the current owners is, so far, no. No 2-rail versions of those locomotives have been not are being sold to date.
