Guys,

I may be putting into my O27 layout a set of O gauge switches, just to get a little wider, and maybe smoother, curve as the engine goes through on the curved exit.   I know all about the height differences that these would have compared to O27, but that is not an issue with me.

What is an issue is that I want an old school look (tin-type if possible), with a rocking lever switch on top, not one of those little flats switches on the side.  Also, it can only be an O31 curve.  Nothing larger.

I love the looks of the Marx tin-types, but I believe those only came in 027.

The Lionel 041 switch looks right, but am I correct that that is a 42 inch curve?

Any suggestions for an O31 manual switch for me, that meets what I am looking for?

Thanks for all info.

I'm not familiar with a Lionel O41 switch.  I also don't advocate mixing O and O27 track..

If I were you, I would try to get O27 Marx switches, the ones with an all-metal switch cover.  (Not sure of the product number.  But if you google it you will see images of this type.)   On the ones I'm referring to, the whole center portion swivels.  In my experience they are reliable and cause fewer derailments.  Lionel 5121 / 5122s are ok and should be widely available for a good price.

Ross makes great O31 switches that are very smooth.  They'll work best if you use all Ross track as well.  But they're not cheap.  It seems like you're just starting out, and that would be a big investment for a first layout.  My $.02.
