Lionel PRR DD35A.....problems...Help??

Just went through something very similar although I did not have 5 blinks. According to my manual for my new Legacy SD 60 5 Blinks is Not Applicable. The antenna that looks for the Legacy signal my be loose or not connected - not an expert just a thought from experience.

5 blinks = smoke unit #2 fan fail to spin. Shut off both of the smoke unit switches for now. Power up, and slide the Prog / Run to Prog. Try to set the ID. If this fail to work; slide the switch back to run, & try running the loco on ENG 99. Observe - motion, lights, sounds. If not OK by the remote, the loco is in conventional mode. If OK; turn on the smoke unit #1 (front), then Smoke unit #2.

Fan spin failure can be cause by too much smoke fluid. The fluid can reach the fan impeller and stall out the motor. Failure to enter command mode is probably a service issue to resolve.

Both smoke units work properly blowing smoke. but I tried to program it with them off anyhow and it still didn't work. I also checked to see it the handrails were broken anywhere and they all seem to be perfect. looks like a job for the pros at lionel. I'll be calling tomorrow for an RA#. thanks for the help guys. too bad I can't play with this beast yet! lol

Forgot to mention that it won't respond to eng #99 in the remote either

try turning the ody switch to ody no, then program your engine, it should work doing this. Put the ody no switch back to ody after you have programmed the engine.

Just tried it and still no luck...sheesh what did they do to this engine in China??!!! LOL Thanks for the idea anyhow.

Maybe it was on that container ship that was broken in half someone posted a picture of a while back.

Maybe it started life as a submarine.

LOL Who knows...nothing would surprise me! Called Lionel this morning and have an RA#. I will be shipping it out today.

How did things go with your DD35 since its returned from Lionel?  My new DD35 is doing the same thing and I'll have to send it to them. Did it return to you fixed an still in new condition--no broken parts?

 

I was able to get it to program and run but only with the Ody switch in the on position.  But once I switch the Ody switch to the "No Ody." position it just sits there with the lights on.  

I got it back about 2 weeks ago.....runs great!  Took them forever to get the parts in for it!  Glad its back now though.
