Okay, did I miss something? There are currently 6, count'em 6 Lionel T1's for sale on Ebay right now. Several of them are new in the box. Now I realize that these are old locomotives, but why are so many showing up at one time? Is Lionel or MTH rumored to be doing a scale T1 again soon? It seems that most of them are listed for around $500. Is that a decent price?

I bought the Mohawk one back after they came out for $975. A few months ago I got the Reading T-1 for $300 on ebay. Admittedly that was a lucky buy. This is why I am done buying new. I have several similar examples. I'm glad other people buy new. Incidently both go around my 19" radius at the center rail but I can tell this is the absolute minimun radius. Sometime in the 90's O became like HO, or a car, they depreciate.

john dellagrotte...perhaps you missed my T-1 description...all the extra upgrades including TMCC that were NOT on any original T-1. For that alone I do not think the price of $525 is too high.

The box in photo has tape on one end because the T-1, as we all know, is heavy and could slip out of either end if not handled carefully.

The original T-1 was a landmark locomotive, however with Train America Studios and Frank Timko just upgraded only four T-1s, these are now exceptional locomotives.

When TAS ran 3 of them triple-headed at their York Orange Hall display with full sound and smoke, the booth traffic was at a standstill!

GEF... appreciate your comment.

Thanks.

Walter,

Your prices are a bargain.  Wish I hadn't the funds right now for them.  I bought my 3 T-1's for abot $300 a piece, spent $100 to have the pull more motor removed and a can motor and Mth smoke unit installed.  Then I am spending $179.00 for the DCS upgrade Kit.  Not to mention what it costs to have the upgrade installed(around $150)

Total $829.00

Ya can't get something for nothing

John,

Everyone has the right to state an option.  For those of us who have experience with this engine, Walters offering is a really good value in this economy.  Like I had stated in my earlier post it could go for north of $800.   Sometimes it is better to layback and let a thread develop before jumping in.  Otherwise remember, no one hears the inflection / tone in your voice. So you should never take anything too seriously and just read things for what they are.  So sit back and enjoy and keep those posts and opinions coming

Mike , I am well aware of what these upgrades cost so I do not feel like I had to lay back. AS someone who has bought alot of used trains I think I am more than a casual observer. I just don't post much. I don't buy too much new because trains are declining in price so much that the secondary market is so good for the buyer. To each his own on the upgrades. I know when I buy  an engine it will be worth less if I was to sell it no matter how good of a deal I got. Its just the way it is in the train world

Thanks john

"Ridicule" and "Insult" are words with different meanings.  I ridiculed your opinion.  If you choose to be insulted, that's on you.  I am also entitled to my opinion that your proclamation that an upgraded engine is somehow worth less than the going rate for a factory original engine is (and please look up the definition) ridiculous.

It's not like he's trying to extract original 1989 retail (or even discounted retail) out of the engine.

I got one (granted it was 15 years ago, before the saturation of the market) for ~ 500  from another collector and thought it was a decent deal at the time.  (I say ~ 500 because if I remember the deal was $1k for that and also the Grey Hudson from the same time frame as a package deal)

Of course if a brand new scale offering of this engine was made today, it would be listed at minimum $900-$1200 by any  of the major importers.

-Dave
