I recently ordered a new board part number 691RSM1005 for a conventional 2-8-4 Berkshire. I received a board inside a package with the part number above but the board itself has a part number of 691RSL3A00. I installed the board in my loco and all sounds work except the chuff. I double checked and replaced the 691PCB1071 to make sure it wasn’t defective. What am I missing?

Couldn't fine the 691RSL3A00 on the Lionel parts site, what does the packing slip say?
Same as the part number on the package, 691RSM1005. I just received another board from them. It was 691RSL3707 and has 691RSL3A00 printed on the board as well. It was installed in a Legacy J class.
I see the difference. The 691RSM1005 is the new version of the RS-Lite board. There were changes to the serial data for the boards mated with the LCP2/LCP3 boards. The 691RSL3707 is the older RS-Lite board that was paired with the RCMC logic boards.
In any case, I don't believe a conventional locomotive would be using the later style RS-Lite board, it's most likely a shipping mistake by Lionel. You need to contact them and have them sort it out.
Funny you should say that. This is the 4th time I have received this board from them. I wanted to make sure I wasn’t in the wrong. It’s hard to mess up a plug and play repair…. Thanks for the insight John!
