Just wondering but has anyone converted a Lionel scale Harriman 2-8-0 to PS3? I've found that the conventional version can be had cheap. This is the model I'm talking about: http://www.lionel.com/products...dation-2686-6-28037/ I know a command version was produced but by the time I buy a cruise commander M, supper chuffer, and chuff generator, plus a new fan driven smoke unit the cost of a PS3 kit and a MTH PS3 smoke unit ends up being cheaper. I want 4 chuffs per revolution and fan driven smoke, just like my MTH steam locomotives. Plus all my steam locomotives are DCS and diesels are TMCC, so I'd be sticking with a pattern .

Here is the parts diagram for the locomotive:  https://www.lionelsupport.com/...386-280376-28039.pdf

Looks like it uses a standard RS-385 motor with flywheel. I would just need a MTH smoke unit recommendation and it seems like it would be a fairly easy project.

FWIW, I have the Lionel Consolidation that has been upgraded to PS/2, and the large MTH steam smoke unit fit into it.

That's good to know. Did you happen to mount the smoke unit to the chassis or the inside of the shell? Also what MTH part number was the smoke unit you used? If you get a chance to take a picture I would appreciate it. I'm assuming the PS2 electronics fit fine in the Vanderbilt tender as well.

I upgraded a later 2-8-0 that came with TMCC and Cruise but had a puffer unit. The replacement came from a Lionel 10 wheeler which is now listed as NLA. Posting to show the size you will be looking for. GGG likely knows an MTH unit similar to this.

Of course it's no longer available.

The one chuff a revolution and puffer smoke unit are what kills the operating characteristics of the TMCC version for me. Well that and the 32 speed steps. Hence why I'd just buy the conventional one and upgrade it.

I actually bought this one that someone else converted, it was just such a great deal that I jumped on it.

You actually bought a piece someone else converted? I'm kinda surprised.

If you figure out what smoke unit is in it let me know.
