Hello everyone, Happy New Year !!!

Just finished this for someone, It's an older tender. The customer wanted to add sound to the tender, so what i did was install ERR large steam sounds, a good ground connection, a power pick up and a reed switch to get the chuff.

Thanks for looking, Alex

Hay Alex,

As mike said, I too would like to see where the reed sw. & magnet are and explain how you mounted each item. I'm wondering if this can be done with the reed sw. & magnet to an EM-1 Lionel engine by replacing the limit sw. (cherry sw.) with it . It has an R2LC board & uses the commom (ground) to activate the chuffing sounds. The current sounds only gives 2 chuffs, when in actuality there should be 4 chuffs / revolution. If this doesn't work then can you suggest a system to install into the loco to give it some realism. Thanks.

Hi guys

all the parts are available at The electric railroad company. There's really no part numbers, you can give Ken a call at ERR or look everything up on their website

The sound board is large steam sounds.

I make my own reed switches but electric railroad has them ready made.

The magnets I get from a company called K&J magnetics the size is  1/8 x 1/16 discs

Here's the Reed switch simply mounted to the frame with CA glue

Hi John

This Reed switch will work along with magnets and you will get 4 chuffs. But a better method is using Hennings / GRJ super chuffer along with their chuff generator. It's much more full proof and you'll end up with 4 chuffs with 4 puffs. But it has to have a fan driven smoke unit.
