The Weaver based Lionscale cars are a fragile design, some were delivered with damaged frame and/or trucks.

The trucks are also Weaver design and are not completely diecast like Lionels previous trucks. The trucks have the ugly thumbtack uncouplers instead of Lionels hidden uncoupling mechanism.

Its great Lionel has brought at least part of the manufacturing back here to the States, its just too bad they couldn't make use of the superior quality overseas freight car tooling.

If you search the forum, the Lionscale cars were discussed extensively.

I think it would be a good idea if you had a LHS were you could see the cars first hand and decide for yourself.

One minor correction, RickO...the new LionScale trucks are all Lionel (Mike Reagan-era), definitely not Weaver.  They were designed exclusively by Lionel after they purchased the former-Weaver USA tooling, supposedly to make 2-rail conversions easier.  We could only wish they were of the same quality as the former Weaver die-cast sprung trucks.  The Weavers were made by MTH and they are pretty much bulletproof!!

I received some of those early damaged cars, and it looked like the cast flange of the truck's bolster broke in shipping, leaving them free to fly around and smash the bodies. This happened because they weren't properly secured. Lionel corrected that problem in subsequent shipments.

I have a couple of small gripes with some of the boxcars I got. The plastic used on the Railbox cars appears to be an unpainted yellow, giving them a slightly translucent look. Cheesey!

The printer they use for the lettering is really cool, and does a nice white. My other problem was with the CSX cars. The yellow lettering seemed very washed out, compared to other CSX cars I own. I'm not sure if it was simply a bad choice by Lionel, or the printer couldn't do a richer yellow. It may have been the former.

All the hoppers I got were very nice.

Still waiting on reefers. I swear I ordered a bunch of them.
