As my trains come back out of boxes, I've been showing my son pictures and videos of each model's prototype. We've been having a blast searching for them online, and then running each around our tree.

Today, I pulled out the RMT Beeps... Obviously, no prototype for these little guys. This got me to wondering, are there other examples of totally fictitious diesel or electric locomotives in O gauge? I don't mean road names or inaccurate details, but entirely imaginary machines. And, I'll expand the question to: have you created any 3rail fiction locos (pictures please!)?

2-4-2 Columbias, 2-6-2 Praries and 2-6-4 Baltics weren't fictitious but they weren't popular with real American railroads either.

2-6-2's were very popular with logging operations and branch lines, and Santa Fe used them extensively in mainline freight service also.  As for O gauge fictitious engines aside from the Beep, there is also the RMT Beef.  Aristo-Craft also made some fictitious engines (Lil Critter, Eggliner, etc.), but that's G scale.

The glow in the dark AEC GP9 is a beauty also.  I used to set it up on a recording on my ARC and then sneak down in the basement and push play when my son was having a sleepover.  The claxton and siren effects were a big hit with the lads at seven in the morning after being up playing video games till five.  I know, mean dad...

I still think it's funny.

The Hudson and Baltic's have the same Whyte classification.

Your likely thinking of the Adriatic. No American style Adriatic made it to production. I remember an author doing research for a book during the 60s and the old timers talking of Prairies with 4 wheel boosters being used here and there, but no picture proof existed on those either. Word of mouth only, leaving an enigma over any existence of them at all in North America. So since no shop lays claim, and no photo proof exists, the American Adriatic doesn't exist.

(Sorry if this is a repeat, I think the other post failed to load though.)

We could venture into the Thomas series, a while bunch of stuff there that isn't real.   Of course, I have a Wienermobile that never had a 1:1 prototype either.

Ha, got ya John. Thomas series is real! Since the Strasburg Railroad has been building them in live steam that is.

They started with Thomas and are working on others as well.

Semantics you say? I say it's life imitating art!

You didn't say a Wienermobile that ran on rails!

Nice try, but just look at where this is posted and the thread title: In Search of Engine Fiction

You can't get by with that one!

A first!

I followed a link right back to the same thread I was on, lol .

That Weinermobile may be old news, but I always love to see a post with it. Its inspiring..h377, its liberating.

A new sci-fantasy engine would be cool. The Phantom itself was all style, and a bit lacking in gadgety pizzazz....

psst...isnt that your cue again John?

Lol, I thought about that too Laming ( 2-4-0) and passed because of the era styles figuring EC was well aware, but a good point since the OP or others might not.

Just to touch on my fav. again; coming up with a picture of a 19th century Adriatic would still send a few history buffs heads spinning.    ..Go trolling with a photo shopped pic?

John, that had to be dissapointing. It is for me and it wasn't even mine. Sounds go out too? I might have moved to one way travel in conventional on a BR if your sound mods were OK. Running conventional vs tmcc likely more of a pita to you though.  Any issue with the illumination wire being in the room?

Firewood,.that link is very cool, couldn't navigate it well on Android, but I saved it for future reference. Thanks.

Outside my home, outside my scale, I have a fav. whimsical builder. Its Chris Walas, Im betting of movie special effects,(he never answered that, so  I took it as a yes and didnt ask again, lol. ). A G model basher. Even his figures are his own. (Very encouraging tutorial, well worth reading)

He calls this..
