According to Charles Ro the the Volume 2 catalog is more to show what is coming in 2013 line of standard O locomotives. They also say there might not be volume 1 releases mentioned again in the the volume 2

I just want a vl norfolk and western j.
I wonder if they are going to have anything on the starter set with remote control that they spoke of at York.
Oooooh I might not get what I want so run don't walk with a wheelbarrow full of cash and Buy Buy Buy.
Pretty pathetic marketing strategy is what I call it.

Yes... I received this email yesterday, and wasn't put off by it at all. I've ordered from Charlie for DECADES now -- before some of the other dealers here were even established.
Unfortunately, this is one of those d***ed if you do and d***ed if you don't emails. Why? Well, if a dealer sends it out, folks will complain that the dealer is simply trying to drum up sales (which may be understandably soft right now). OTOH, if dealers say nothing, then folks will complain that they only have "so much" money to play with on trains this year, and they don't quite know if the importers have shown all their cards yet (in terms of product). So I simply viewed the Charles Ro email as saying, "Folks... Lionel has pretty much announced what their gonna deliver THIS year in the 2012 V1 catalog. So if you have $$$ to spend, choose from what they've announced already... and oh, by the way, please spend it with us." Can't fault them for sending that message.
The problem as I see it though is... we just never know for sure what ANY of these importers has up their sleeves in terms of product announcements -- and quite frankly, neither do ANY of their dealers. For example, Lionel could EASILY announce (say in late November) another set of "quick product deliveries" scheduled for arrival before Christmas -- much like they just did with the EM-1, Pacific, and Mikado locomotives in March/April. (They had a habit of doing that years ago, as I remember.) And MTH seems to have quietly moved toward announcing "uncatalog'd products" each month. So nobody's crystal ball is fool-proof.
Some days, you just gotta spend those $$$ and not look back. 'Cause just when you make that big purchase, someone will surely announce something else that you'd like to place on your wish list. Goes with the territory, I guess.
Just a case of toss out the bait and see who bites. Nothing more and nothing less. Remember what P.T. Barnum said.
