The wireless drawbar on the MTH proto 3 steam locomotives has a ground spring to assure proper ground between the loco and tender. It is attached to the locomotive side of the drawbar with a plastic sleeve. When you purchase the shorter drawbars to close couple the engine and tender, they do not come with the spring or the sleeve. The originals are too long to attach to the shorter.
What suggestions do you all have about replacing the spring when you switch to a shorter drawbar?

Trim the spring and the sleeve to the proper length.

I just ran into the same issue today. I was afraid the answer would be to trim it. That makes it tough to go back if you find that you need the longer tether.
In case anyone is still wondering about this, I solved the problem by simply bending a paper clip of the same gauge wire into the shape of the old grounding wire / pin and just made it a bit shorter. I then covered any exposed solder points with tape.
