I just ran across this forum due to my wife asking me about the powered car that ran on the L&N line from Nashville to Florence, Alabama. I actually rode this train from our small community-Brace, TN to Lawrenceburg numerous times with my Mother or my Aunts. The unit that I remember was a drab grayish green- due to neglect I surmise. The little community was at a relatively high point on this line and the stop was a flag stop- when we heard the sound of the engine pulling the gade- I'd rune home and get my kin. It was always an adventure. This was in the early 1950s. I later went to work for the L&N as a head-end brakeman and worked this job until I got rolled off. The extra-board was my bread and butter until the business fell off. I still fondly going to Radner Yard and picking up the engines with the engineer. The name for the car was "Huckety-buck" in our community due to the fits and jerks from the rough rails and the finicky engine. The model that I saw pictured on this site is a marvelous capture of the machine. By the time that I went to work, it was relegated to the scrapyard I suppose.
