Can someone post a manual for the QSI PowerGuard? I checked, there's not one in the sticky thread at the top of this forum. Thanks.

Thanks, but that is the manual for the QSI QS-1 DCRU and sound system, not the PowerGuard. I can probably make use of that manual, since people are always asking me to fix their old QSI and Proto-1 engines, but I'm still looking for the instructions for the PowerGuard.
I might have one as I still have 2 and use them. I will look when I get home tomorrow.
Here is an interesting write up on power spikes, and a technical review of the PowerGuard unit.

Thanks Larry, that's exactly what I needed. Some good information in there that I didn't know about the meaning of the horn and bell indicator lights, among other things.
I wasn't familiar with that archive site. I looked up their archive of the old Scaled Tin Rail site. Unfortunately it didn't seem to include some of the good technical information on QSI and Proto-1 that was on Art's site when he was still around. Still a useful reference; thanks again.

Thanks for the post of the manual. But I have a QSI model ACS-730 PowerGuard it only has 2 wires coming out the back brown and orange. Taking a wild guess that I have one of the transformer leads going into ??? the orange and brown to track that is a wild guess. Can not find anything on line?
After installing TVS on my little attic layout I donated one of my PowerGuards to Dale Manquen(RIP) for an evaluation of it versus a TVS for clamping voltage spikes. Dale's conclusion-- the inexpensive TVS is far more effective as regards arresting spikes.
However he suggested I keep them for other reasons, in my case it is primarily the flashing lights

OOPS---not rec and black but one brown and one orange conductor from each PG. Orange is connected to white at T-strip which is common on my layouts. Brown to Hot red and black district railpower feeders on T-strip..

Here is a scan of the 4 page manual. Basically you hook the orange wire to the transformer output that goes to the center rail and you hook the brown wire to the transformer output that goes to the outside rails.

I'm sorry - I really haven't paid attention lately to what I photo'd. Now that I look back, sorry that I didn't answer your question.
Orange = '+' terminal on trannie. Brown = '-' terminal on trannie.
I have the manual for those also, Thanks to you making me aware that what I photo'd doesn't cover the 'guard', I'll photo those the next time I dig them out. Thanks.
