I ordered 2 bottles of smoke fluid last week and noticed the eye dropper has more of a tapper to it. Not a huge difference but it would get into a tighter space for a steam engine. For diesels I would still use their needle point bottle. The dropper on the left is the newer design.

I always put my Mega Steam fluids in different bottles.  I had a couple in which the black rubber from the eyedropper deteriorate.  Black fragments contaminated the fluid.  I had to strain them....what a waste and a PITA.

Yeah, that's happen to me if they fall on their side and the rubber stays soaked in the fluid.

I wonder if the new dropper would help with the issue I'm having with my two new Lionel steamers.   I constantly get bubbles and spitting out fluid.   Even with blowing down the stack, I just cant seem to get the fluid in the smoke unit.

Wow, Jeb from Mega-Steam emailed me after reading my post about the rubber in the eye dropper.  He offered to replace the damaged eye droppers, which was really nice.  He also provided me this advice that I thought I would share.....

We have found that if the user squeezes the fluid out of the glass pipette before storing the rubber will last a longer time.  A lot of guys just put the fluid away and never think of emptying the eye dropper.  We have looked into synthetic rubber, but have found that it too will react over time with the smoke fluid.

Thanks Jeb, no kidding I do think Mega-Steam is the best smoke fluid out there and no doubt you customer service is even better!  Thank you very much.

Garry; maybe a needle point would get the fluid down a little deeper in the stack might help.   What I try to do is when the smoke unit is cool powering down for the night I fill the smoke unit with a little blow down the stack and leave it till the next time I run the engine.  That seems to give the fluid enough time to soak down to the wick with better results.

Hmmm. For all the bottles I have and had I’ve never had that problem.

I've never had that with Mega Steam either, no dropper issues. We do try and remember to empty them prior to reinserting into the bottle.

Another companys smoke fluid we had would soften up and eat the rubber. IIRC they were brown bottles.

That doesn’t surprise me a bit. Jeb and his company are a class act and customer service has alway been excellent!   I had never really thought about it but I just always got in the habit of squeezing out the the fluid before I put the bottle away. Maybe that’s why I have gotten a bit more mileage out of the droppers.
