There always seem to be some confusion between Memorial Day and Veterans Day.   While they are both federal holidays used to commemorate the lives of soldiers and others who have served in the armed forces, they commemorate different aspects of those who served.   Memorial Day commemorates those men and women who died serving in the United States Armed Forces, while Veterans Day honors everyone who has served in the United States Armed Forces.

Also, Armed Forces Day is a single day to pay tribute to men and women who serve the United States’ armed forces.

I went through my train inventory and could not find any item that specifically supports Memorial Day, coming up this Monday.  I need to fix that.  I do have several service specific and Independence Day related items, so I'm posting one that I think is appropriate.  Please pray for our troops safe return, so they will not have to be remembered on a future Memorial Day.

Also, if you watch the National Memorial Day Parade in person or on TV, keep an eye out for me.  I will be supporting my Civil Air Patrol cadets who will be carrying one of our Nation's flags.

I almost fell out of my chair when my daughters replied after seeing Pearl Harbor that is was a story that was not true.  They had seen the the part were 1000's of sailors were trapped in the hulls of sinking battleships in the harbor. And they asked "Did they have to be so graphic on this?" And my reply was YES, so no one will ever forget the horror of what our soldiers went through to save our freedom.

Agree with all.  I too, would love to see some trains with those themes.  The military cars are cool, but that's different.

It's hard for kids in CT (and other states) to learn much of anything when they are required to take so many tests by politicians with so many political agendas.   I know the difference between a football and a basketball.  That doesn't qualify me to be commissioner of the NFL or NBA.  Most veteran teachers will tell you they are teaching 25 to 35 percent less than ten years ago, primarily because of all that mandatory testing.

Gilly is right.  As always, it doesn't have to take a village, but it will take a parent.

Sorry if I ranted...

More so then some of the story line, the opening scenes of Saving Private Ryan give a good glimpse. Before it is too late have them talk with some Marines who fought island to island across the Pacific.

There are those who think the U.S. started the war, the memorial curators included it seems if you go.

Thank you "CSPPiilot":

I have too have been making folks aware of the differences between Memorial day/Veterans Day/Armed Forces day. Each has it own time period to pay respects.
Lionel should step up the plate to make a box car specific for each Holiday and to do it correctly.

Armed forces day:
Many Americans celebrate Armed Forces Day annually on the third Saturday of May. It is a day to pay tribute to men and women who serve the United States’ armed forces. Armed Forces Day is also part of Armed Forces Week, which begins on the second Saturday of May.

Memorial Day:
Memorial Day (the fourth Monday in May) honors American service members who died in service to their country or as a result of injuries incurred during battle.

Veterans Day:
Veterans Day pays tribute to all American veterans–living or dead–but especially gives thanks to living veterans who served their country honorably during war or peacetime.

I also belong to a motorcycle association (Star Touring and Riding) and was the Vet Rep at that time.
Our group had the Honor to lay a wreath on the tomb of the "UNKNOWN SOLDIER".
With this only 4 people were allowed to walk up to the tomb with the wreath.
For me this was/is a bucket thing I did and would never forget, what a Honor.
