Today, I spent my lunch break changing out one the trains at the Ronald McDonald House in Aurora, CO.

I dropped of 2 box cars, a tank car, hopper and flat (pictured in fore ground). It was not until I had them setup that I realized they were all acquired from Menards.

Each of the 3 trains are started by pushing a button which starts a timer. The accessories are controlled by push buttons.

Kudos to Menards and all of the other manufacturers and individuals who obviously donated time and money in providing this layout for the kids who need a real diversion.  I wonder how many of the Ronald McDonald houses have similar setups!

Well, the OP's statement doesn't indicate whether Menards actually donated the cars, let alone donated any time and money. He simply said he dropped off cars that were acquired from Menards. Did the OP acquire them, or did they come directly from Menards? Maybe we can get some clarification on that.

I bought them, not that it matters. Other members on this forum have sent items from time to time to donate and to run on that layout. There are two extremely nice  locomotives that that were donated by a forum member. They are only run 2-4 times a year when I can be there to make sure there are no issues.

I thought it was just interesting that the cars that I picked randomly to take over were all from Menards. The diesel pulling the train was donated by.. well a large train mfr (Not Lionel or Mikes) that wants to remain anonymous. That said some items from MTH, Lionel have found there way from the respective mfrs to the layout. Some of the locos and rolling stock are donated to the Ronald McDonald House and become their property, others are from my collection and are used change out what is seen.

I would like to thank Caboose Hobbies and the Mizell Family (formerly Mizell Trains) for their donations over the years.

This is cool John!   Could I ask a bit more:  do you need to protect the trains from kids getting to handy with them?    It may be that the layout is behind glass windows?

What accessories did you install - I imagine ones that do not require interaction like loading barrels?

Was it a challenge convincing the administrators that this was a good thing to do, and a good use of space?

I( am thinking I might like to do something along these lines not yet sure where).

Thanks, Ken
