Looks like a new military caboose in camo paint without the roof mounted gun is now on Menards website. Might put an order in after more releases are announced at the train show.

With all that white lettering on the side it kinda reminds me of this:

Yep, possibly the first of many new offerings from Menards Trains.

Nope. Definitely the first of a dozen.

Nice caboose! I assume the red marker lights on the rear are LEDs, but does anyone who bought this caboose know if the interior lite is an LED or standard bulb? Thanks!

They are LED'S.. Bob
Thanks, Bob! The Menards photo does make it look like LEDs inside!
It's a nice caboose and yes the lights are led's. I took mine apart to check. The couplers are junk though. Only one works and then marginally. The other coupler has a hard time closing and then won't stay latched. It's like they are made out of a very soft pliable plastic. I won't pull it until I change the trucks.

I don’t mind the plastic trucks on the caboose since it’s only gonna bring up the rear, but I’m dragging my feet buying any of the newly released gondolas with those trucks. Really wish they would’ve used the metal ones.
We ran all the new cars at the Menards Expo for over 18 hours with NO problems with the couplers or trucks. I also ran all 13 new cars on my layout and again with NO problems.
You better get more cars Dad! 13 isn't known for being a lucky number! LOL
Uh, Oh! I don’t post very often but I ordered one of these new military cabooses and received mine today. I put it on the track to check out the lights and it immediately began to smoke heavily from inside. The lights flickered for a moment and there was the smell of burning plastic. I took it off the track to cool down. It’s now dead. I run conventional so it wasn’t a question of watts. Anyone else have this happen to them?

I t did happen to me once, but it was my fault. It was derailed, and I didn't see it. Contact customer support, and they will make it right with you.. Bob
I sure hope their new plastic trucks are not going to be a problem. That would end the enjoyment very quickly. I'm hoping, the couple incenses are only that.
My comment was not regarding the plastic trucks but the couplers. One and the same I guess. I have been trying to think of something that the coupler material was like that everyone could relate to. The closest is the flip up lid on a disposable sport water bottle. The little piece of plastic you rip off to let the lid open compares nicely to what this coupler is like. The pin that is supposed to keep the coupler closed is soft and bends easy letting the coupler open with very little pressure. Now I am only commenting on the caboose and not the other cars as I do not have any of those yet. I may just set it on a piece of track, hook up some power and let it blink.

Jim, I don't think the trucks/couplers are new. Likely the same as the ones as on the cabeese Menards has offered previously.... (C&NW & BNSF?)
I don't have the caboose but I purchased 4 of the nose are box cars and the REA flat car at the train show in Eau Claire. I've run them quite a bit, even done some coupling and uncoupling on the accessory track, and can report that I've had no issues with either the couplers or the trucks.
BYRDIE,
Thank you for this information. You take care and have a great evening.
