It's a nice caboose and yes the lights are led's. I took mine apart to check. The couplers are junk though. Only one works and then marginally. The other coupler has a hard time closing and then won't stay latched. It's like they are made out of a very soft pliable plastic. I won't pull it until I change the trucks.

I don’t mind the plastic trucks on the caboose since it’s only gonna bring up the rear, but I’m dragging my feet buying any of the newly released gondolas with those trucks.  Really wish they would’ve used the metal ones.

Uh, Oh!  I don’t post very often but I ordered one of these new military cabooses and received mine today. I put it on the track to check out the lights and it immediately began to smoke  heavily from inside. The lights flickered for a moment and there was the smell of burning plastic. I took it off the track to cool down. It’s now dead. I run conventional so it wasn’t a question of watts. Anyone else have this happen to them?

I t did happen to me once, but it was my fault. It was derailed, and I didn't see it. Contact customer support, and they will make it right with you.. Bob

My comment was not regarding the plastic trucks but the couplers. One and the same I guess. I have been trying to think of something that the coupler material was like that everyone could relate to. The closest is the flip up lid on a disposable sport water bottle. The little piece of plastic you rip off to let the lid open compares nicely to what this coupler is like. The pin that is supposed to keep the coupler closed is soft and bends easy letting the coupler open with very little pressure. Now I am only commenting on the caboose and not the other cars as I do not have any of those yet. I may just set it on a piece of track, hook up some power and let it blink.
