If you want to have access to the interior of the building (so as to say add more LED lighting) there is a way to do it without compromising the structure.
A rectangular hole can be cut to a 4" by 7" size under the building proper while still retaining the battery box.
The two pictures shown here show the top of the base--the side the building sits on (the green grass side) and the bottom of the base showing the battery box.
Use the dimensions shown drawn on the base and you should have no problems.
A dremel tool with a saw blade should cut through the base easily.
Make sure to use a blade that is just a large enough diameter to just cut through the base. A large diameter blade or one set too deep could nick wire on the inside.
In addition to my earlier instructions for base removal it should be noted that the back wall of the building is also glued to the base like the skinny front wall.
Scoring the base with a knife and gently inserting one and then another screwdriver under the wall will eventually get the glue to break loose.
Take it slow and careful and it'll come loose.
The access hole cut as shown would probably be sufficient to make any repairs or light additions one would want.

Back wall was barely tacked, did have to cut and cut between base and sidewall untill I was completely through so not to snap or break. It actually looks good without the base and much lighter.
