Only an hour and a half left until midnight.  Boy, this is cutting it close for Midweek Photos!  OK, I'll go ahead and put a couple of shots up.  It snowed a little today, but I had no train available when it was coming down the heaviest.    That's the way it goes.  It will melt off tomorrow.  The Dakota & Iowa RR is ramping up again.  They are a shortline that mostly hauls quarry rock along with some ethanol.  They will start running at night again later in the summer when it gets hot.  And that's about it.  My wife caught me sneaking out last Saturday morning saying, "And where do you think YOU'RE going, buster?"  Only the way she said it, it wasn't really a question.  I got pushed into helping do yard work.  It got up to 71 degrees and was a perfect day.  The next day the temp dropped and it snowed a bit again, but I was basically out of time by the time church was over.  This weekend I intend to head back out to the middle of the state for another crack at the DME (Dakota, Minnesota, & Eastern).  Got to catch that one before it's gone!

1. DAIR train at Baltic, SD/Big Sioux River returning to Dell Rapids with empty hoppers.  I've tried to catch this one at night, but everytime something has screwed it up: wind picks up, water ices over, whatever.  Maybe I should start calling this "Heartbreak Pool."

2. BNSF Marshall sub, s/b grain train at Sioux Center Iowa, in light snow.  Got that one today!

3. BNSF grain train on Canton SD wye, with cut off power from another grain train.  Shot last fall, with vintage 1942 Leica & Leica 35mm lens, Ilford HP5.

Odds and ends for this week.

I thought this Canadian Pacific grain hopper looked unusual last week, being on its own at the end of the street in Scranton.  There must be a bad order on it, because grain cars don't usually take this part of the Delaware-Lackawanna RR.  They normally run from the CP to the Steamtown yard to Pocono Summit and return.

F3 number 663 awaits some compressor repairs outside of the Steamtown Loco shop before her big trip to Spencer,NC with teammate 664.

Actually being repaired for the moment is the Anthracite Railroad Historical Society's F7B, eventually to become 664B in Lackawanna colors.  She sits outside track one in some primer while body panels are getting prepared.  If all goes well, she too will travel with the F3A units to Spencer.

Thanks to Kent for his patience with me.  Yesterday was constant activity, and I could not find a moment to post any photos.  Have a great week everyone.  Happy Passover, and Happy Easter!  Spring is bringing buds and bugs out.  Bring your camera with you to capture some of these pastel colors of nature before they disappear!

Here are a couple contributions for this week...

NYS&W (Susquehanna) # 3808--in what appears to be a fairly fresh coat of paint--idles away with a couple cars between the Frito-Lay plant and 84 Lumber in Kirkwood, NY, just south of Binghamton.  April 14, 2014.

Here are some pieces of Canadian Pacific MOW equipment sitting in what's left of the former D&H yard complex in Oneonta, NY.  It's hard to imagine now how large (and important!) this yard and shop complex once were for the D&H!!  April 14,2014.
