Hello, Boys and girls.  Is it too early to say "It's only 10 months until Christmas?"     It's never too early to start thinking of the perfect gift, which probably has a railroad connection to it.

Anyway, Midweek Photos takes you trackside all over creation to capture the spirit of railroading we all share.  Sometimes we are lucky enough to find trains in motion, while other times we seek out standing still trains on sidings.  Some are lucky enough to find shelter.  Here is a photo of Steamtown's roundhouse in Scranton PA.

Slumbering away for the past several years are Canadian National 3254, a 2-8-2 from 1917 and Canadian Pacific 2317 a 4-6-2 from 1923.

I know steam engines don't run in many places in the winter, so any photos you have of the real world of railroading, current or ancient, are appreciated.  Feel free to share them with us here. See you next week.

It's been a busy week for me, but I did manage to get out a few times.  Had to put on my heavy expedition clothing though!

1. I returned to Ruthton, MN to get a few more shots of the old CF7 at the elevator there.  I knew there was a n/b grain train coming up from Pipestone, MN, eventually.  It took several hours though!  Turns out there was a meet with a s/b manifest there.  So, I got a bonus train!

2. Dakota & Iowa Railroad (DAIR,) running through Hawarden, IA.  This is a park on the north edge of town that has about a dozen or so old buildings that were refurbished and turned into a museum complex.  These sorts of villages are popular in the Midwest.  There is a house that faces the tracks that is fully furnished.  I'm going to ask if I can get a key, so I can set up inside one night to take a shot.
