Happy Wednesday, everyone.  The Memorial Day holiday has brought my part of the World a lot of rain, a couple of tornado threats, and some awesome sunshine thrown in from time to time.  Train time was not very beautiful.

I am jumping back a couple weeks to Golden Spike Weekend, which at Steamtown in Scranton, PA brought out some big steam and a smaller steam engine on the move.

In our first photo, Baldwin 26 steps off the turntable to the track called the South Turntable lead.  With the tracks out in the open, we have train crews spotted to keep people from getting too close to the moving engine.

No. 26 is approaching Nickel Plate Road no. 759 to pull her a bit closer to her Golden Spike Photo mate.

Tugging 759 along, she looks even smaller among these large steamers.

Now, the photo we were waiting for!  East meets West.  The locomotives are both too large to capture the scene perfectly.  A step or two back, and then signs get in the way.

Someone even marked up our Big Boy, no. 4012 for the occasion.  The chalk marks were cleaned off before the week was up.

That is my contribution for the week.  Remember, the Midweek is only the start of the postings.  Please add any photos you wish to share.

Our 1873 Mason 0-6-4T "Torch Lake" finally made its 2019 operating debut last Saturday after a few hours of testing on Friday.  During our winter maintenance season it received a brand new wood deck and cab and the new tender tank we built a couple winters ago was finally installed.  She's looking pretty good for a locomotive that rolled out of the factory almost 146 years ago.

A few more photos from railfanning two weeks ago.

DSCF1542

An eastbound crude oil (66X) approaches the crossing at Haysville behind two C44-9Ws and an ES44DC.

An eastbound manifest heads through the crossing behind a C44-9W, an SD60E, and a still-somewhat-new SD70ACe. I think I have caught this particular ACe on all three of my recent railfanning trips.

Some interesting graffiti (left middle) on the local I posted last week.

The rails here probably need a visit from Loram at some point in the near future.

NS 1066, the New York Central heritage SD70ACe, trails on intermodal 22W.

DSCF1588

Some curious-looking bulkhead/center-beam shorty flatcars; the few I saw loaded had narrow copper pipes.

An SD60E leads eastbound auto-rack 18N.
