Where's Tim???

Sorry Tim if you want to start this thread.  It's rare that I actually get to contribute to this.

Last friday, my son and I rode Amtrak's Vermonter from Springfield, Ma to Windsor, Vt to visit my daughter. First pic is of Springfield Union Station under renovations. The second is the Station in Windsor, Vt which houses a very good restaurant.

Since 1988, Long Branch has marked the end of electrification along NJ Transit's North Jersey Coast Line, also known as the former New York & Long Branch Railroad. Electric trains powered by ALP-46 locomotives operating to and from New York Penn Station are yarded here while diesel powered service continues beyond the wires to Bay Head. With the recent timetable change, peak hour through service between Bay Head and New York has been reinstated thanks to the dual mode ALP-45DP dual mode locomotives. The changeover between modes takes place during the station stop at Long Branch.

Hmmm....ok, Tom, I'll delete what I posted and try again.

In the heat of the night....  Note to self-  just because the sun has set doesn't mean everything will suddenly cease being hot.  I was so intent on doing some twilight photography last weekend that I forgot this little fact...which meant heat distortion from the still very warm roadbed played havoc with my planned headlight glinting off of shiny rail picture...oh well, I guess there's always next time.

The SD40-2's have been talked of being one of the favorite locomotives of

the folks who  operate them. The railroads must have the same opinion,

CSX has been converting many of them into SD40E's. Here are some

of the "squareheads" as the railfans call them, in the Keyser WVa yard.

The 4000 was used as a shuttle engine last winter, the others in the yard

by happenstance. Note that the third photo is of the 4385, indicating a large

number of the converts.  Ed

A week ago Galesburg, IL had their annual railroad days festival. Here are some photos of BNSF, the largest employer there. All of these photos were taken at the local Amtrak station.

Some photos of a brand-new GE ET44C4.

Some new hoppers, without any graffiti.

Westbound Amtrak California Zephyr lead by GE P42DC, # 9 & 10. That was the first time I had seen the newest Viewliners in person, a baggage car.

Great photos, men!  Sorry to miss the start-up, but I was in Delaware last week as a driver/counselor for  the NRHS RailCamp.  Even while talking with Alex Merrill of the Strasburg Rail Road on Wednesday, I totally missed that I should post something for Midweek Photos.  Here is one to whet your appetite for this coming Wednesday.
