How many of you guiys use Miller engineering to add to your railroad?  I have two bill boards, one barber pole and one flashing beer sign  the beer sign is for smaller layouts but perfect to put in a window of a corner bar,  really adds

I think these guys have something that really adds to the layout, i just ordered two more bill boards and two more support structures for the layout, they also have added a circuit that takes track voltage and changes it to required voltage for their gear,  pretty cheap also, i could not buy the components, nor build it for what they sell it, and i build electronic kits all the time.

years ago i added stop lights to the layout and they had one red led in them,  i built a 555 timer to run a relay and the four lights now blink on/off red.  plan on getting another stop and go light and drill out the existing red/amber/green (only real one is red) and replace with led red/amber/green and build a circuit that will mimic real lights

Miller engineering has a similar circuit available now off/on 1/2 sec interval  could buy that for four bucks and wire in a miniature relay and put two lights on one side and two on the other and you can have stop lights that flash red on/off 1/2 sec interval like real cities do late at night

on new layout i plan on having some road side bill boards that light up

something like this on side of road would be cool!!

they also sell the structure to mount the thing

Art

you have a point.   got to watch the year you are trying to re create,  but flashing beer signs and flashing hotel signs all will work,  but the big exotic bill boards did not happen in 1963, some did, but rare.  there is a hotel in Memphis that (i think) had a exotic one on roof, but could be wrong

At the risk of being too obvious, have you tried contacting Chris Miller? The reason I ask is because I had a Pabst sign start going out, and I sent it back, hoping something could be done. It turned out that the contacts had gone bad; Chris sent a replacement sign (with my already made scaffold and circuit board) back to me and simply wrote that if I found it acceptable, just mail back a check for $14 or if not, just return the new sign and call it even.

Of course I sent the $14, and the new sign works great. Maybe you can have your IC sign repaired (or replaced) by Miller Engineering. Just a thought (and maybe you have already tried this)...

As for the Miller Engineering signs, I have so many I haven't even made yet, let alone put on my layout, and I still want more! They are fantastic and really enliven the layout.

I have four of them:  PRR, Redi-Kilowatt, Planter's Peanut, and Cracker Jack.  The Redi-Kilowatt is exactly like the sign that was erected atop a building in my town which is why I bought it.  I do have a cracker jack box next to its sign and will put some peanuts in a gondola.  My wife thinks they're cute so I don't regret spending the money for them.

i just ordered the Mr Peanut, in fact i was looking at their web page and called my bride in and said "i want to order another sign, only condition is I want you to pick it out!"

she jumped in and picked Mr Peanut  it along with the support stand for rooftop is on its way.

I also ordered the power supply converter for 18vAC to 4.5DC, heck i could not build one for that price

BUT QUESTION OF THE DAY

'is there a competitor for Miller?'  i sure don't know

issue we have is they are only made for around 4000 hours of operations.

so far though Chris has been working with us to replace any that fade out.

we are getting more.

Just love collecting Miller signs. Though I never thought of them having a lifespan, 4,000 hours is a lot of time. Btw, as they age near that end of life mark, does their brilliance become progressively dimmer like an lcd panel does when it nears the end of its lifespan or does it just suddenly stop working? Curious to know.

"does it just suddenly stop working? Curious to know."

good project for a billion dollar science study for the economic recovery to be funded by another tax increase

""watching a Miller sign for 4000 hours straight""

well come on, got to have some levity some of the time

but seriously now,  is there a competitor for this kind of product.  I think these guys are great, have talked to them on the phone and they are quite personal, and just take care of their customers.  Just think what it would be like if you were dealing with Ching Chow Gee in Shanghai at his "made in china factory"   Or simply ATLAS track

HEY!! I bought the Miller Engineering Budweiser sign yesterday at the Hobbyland store in Bloomington, IL and put it on the layout. AND NOW the "Central" lights up. Hmmm...

If one breaks, you might try that...
