My love for the Milwaukee Road continues to increase in my modeling.   I am hoping that you will all share pictures of either your modeling efforts with the Milw or your favorite real railroad pictures.

As a boy the Milwaukee Road was the railroad that served my home town.  It was the RR that got me interested in railroading.  The maroon and orange paint jobs were what was normal to me.  Unfortunately so was the dirty equipment, poor track conditions, and other signs of a RR that was always struggling.  And I was on a major branch line and didn't see it's best either.  I never saw the Hiawathas or name passenger trains, but I sure do like them today.  Our train was The Sioux which were old heavy weight coaches that didn't match pulled by first steam engines and then F units.  And an M&STL doodlebug ran through town as our other passenger choice.

I have been trying to create facilities that look right for that railroad.  My favorite depot and switch tower paint jobs are the two-tone gray.

My Milwaukee layout is in the plywood stage, but here are some prototype pictures from my trip in 2016 to the Hiawatha Trail.  This is a 22 mile rail trail over the former Milwaukee Road from East Portal, Montana to Pearson, Idaho.  The trail takes you through tunnels and over high steel trestles with spectacular views of the Bitteroot Mountains.  Unlike most of the bikers that day, I stopped and read every information marker and photographed everything.  The scenery was just spectacular.

Don,

Unfortunately the A is a 2 rail Overland model, but she makes a purdy shelf queen.  The F7 is brass too...Weaver.  I upgaded it with ERR so it is always at work on the layout.

If given a choice other than Milwaukee steam it would be a set of those Erie builts.  Real classy!

Bruce

J daddy went to Butte and those are neat shots....but this is one of the coolest old time stations ever, in Great Falls, MT.  The tower is visible many miles away as you enter town from I-15.  Do you love this station and tower or what?

ONe more cool place between bozeman and butte, built by the Milwaukee road- three forks, MT.  Here is their visitor center, a Milwaukee road caboose- google the town, it is within a few miles of where Lewis and Clark called the head waters of the Missouri- where the Gallatin, Jefferson, and Madison meet.

Bob, what an incredible ride that must have been! As an avid bike rider and seeker of "things that are old", I envy your journey. If you have other photos (I'm betting you do) and are willing to share, I would certainly enjoy seeing them, either here , or I could send a flash drive/card.

Thanks for the posting!

Great pictures!  I never get tired of seeing Milwaukee Road maroon and orange.  They were such a fun railroad to watch.  Their car shops built some very unique and beautiful passenger cars.  The Hiawathas were very cool in my opinion.  I loved watching their F units and bay window cabooses as a boy.

Wow! That is one impressive club layout! I graduated from WSU-Whitewater and lived in Palmyra, WI for many years  If it weren't 467 miles from my current address, I would try to join!!

Thanks Bob! Those pictures are amazing! Absolutely an awesome ride! That ride is on my bucket list now! You're like me in that I can be found lagging behind on bike rides or hikes shooting pics of the informational markers

Thank you for taking the time to post all of those - I even sent the link to a friend who is another "avid hiker in Ohio"
