Model Locomotive Startup and Shutdown Sounds

Here's my current favorite, K-Line RS3 with TMCC.

Here's two ALCOS- The first is a Lionel RS-11 w/ Command

Second is a MTH RS-3 w/ PS-2

Crew-talk is disabled on all locomotives on the RSJ&B due to the cringe factor involved in listening to them.

If this were a competition, MELGAR's S-2 would win on actual starting. That is exactly what an ALCO sounded like!

Shutdown sounds - MTH Premier New Haven Railroad ALCO DL-109 #0719 with PS-2.

MTH Premier GE 44-ton locomotive model (PS-3) startup sounds. Most of these locomotives had two Caterpillar D17000 V8 engines each with 180 HP. The shutdown sounds are very short and incomplete so I’m not including them.

Not that there seems to be much interest in startup/shutdown sounds, but here are two videos that play the excellent startup and shutdown sounds of my MTH Premier New York Central GP9 #6001 diesel locomotive with PS-3. They’re shaky because I have to hold the camera and start/stop the video with one hand while operating the transformer throttle with the other. The GP9s were powered by an EMD 567C engine that produced 1750 horsepower.
