I came across this looking for something else. I guess if I was going to change my era 1970 would be interesting. Watching this video, All the passenger trains start out pure. As the video plays, you start seeing mixed from the BN merger and you also see Penn Central with rolling stock and engines still in PRR and NYC.  The only pure sets were ATSF, GMO IC, and Milwaukee rd. At the end of the passenger section you start seeing a complete mix of cars and engines to include some cars that had been repainted with AMTRAK Livery. Freight was the same way as footage showed CB&Q at the start, Then the multi colored consists with BN/GN/CB&Q/NP Some had the new BN reporting marks, some didn't. Same for Penn Central PC/NYC/PRR. One thing I noticed was that there were a lot of 40ft PS1 and AAR box cars still in service. Same as for markings CB&Q for example. Even thought they had gone to Chinese Red, a lot of the 40 and 50 ft cars were still in mineral red and still had Way of the Zephyr and Everywhere West on the sides.  So what do you think?

I had this same discussion yesterday! I could easily switch to the PC era; with NYC, PRR and NH power, and lots of 2nd generation power.

It all started when I opened the box of a Lionel SD40-2, and saw the details and the coloring...

Better yet, since Conrail and I were born the same year, that would probably be my move... If I really wanted to. PC, EL, LV and other motive power, in addition to Big Blue itself!  A few Big Blue SD40-2s, GP30s, GP35s mixed I. With a few PC SD45s and others would be pretty cool.

Thanks,
Mario

PS - I'm not switching.

I running late 50s to 1965 CBQ/GN. I had thought about running engines and rolling stock that would take me to the merger. But now seeing this video got me thinking. When the BN merger took place NP/CBQ/GN all had a mixed fleet of old and new liveries. The next thing the after the merger You would see (Example) CBQ engine pulling a NP cab. What I haven't seen anybody model BN with using premerger liveries with the BN reporting marks. The video got me thinking, now that I am planning to move my layout to my garage in August. What did you think of the video. I will also email you later about some spacers.
