Hey guy's I've got a little question for ya! I've decided to make some rudimentary freight cars using 3inX3inX12in blocks of wood. Carving, sanding,, cutting, etc... Anyway, After they're done I need to mount 3rail trucks on them so I can use them on my layout. I was wondering if anyone knew how to mount the trucks to the wood (flat surface.) I know normally the trucks would require a bolster to sit at the correct height and not rub against the car. However, if I NEED to get bolsters, I would have to fashion my own. Any ideas or opinions on mounting the trucks would be greatly appreciated. =D

I'm not sure how Atlas trucks mount.

If they just have a hole, a wood screw is all that is needed. Drill a pilot hole, preferably with a drill press at the correct location. I would suggest a flat washer between the truck and the wood.

If they have a post that sits into a hole and is fastened on top with a retaining ring, they you'll need to make a simple bolster. I've made then out of a 1.5" square piece of 1/8" plastruct with scraps added to the sides to raise the piece away from the bottom with enough room for the clips. I drilled a hole in the center for the truck. Since the car that I was adding them to was European tinplate, I used #2 self-tapping screws to attach the bolster to the car floor.
