MTH 2012 Vol. 2 catalog

I got a "tickler" from MTH regarding their new catalog to be released at York in a couple of weeks. The front cover has another FM Trainmaster diesel and I was wondering if they have maintained their moratorium on steam locomotives once again.

I've been anxiously awaiting a USRA Heavy Mikado, which I don't think that anyone has done as yet. Last time, MTH was going to produce a Milwaukee Road S-3 "#261" and had made plans for it's release but Lionel beat them to the punch. Lionel did produce one of their finest models with this engine. If MTH keeps waiting, Lionel will beat them on this engine, also.

I've waited a long time for a correctly detailed Wabash Train Master. I copied the picture and blew it up a bit to take a look. What is supposed to be blue, looks black (It could be a dark blue, I can't tell). I hope I'm wrong and that MTH is not creating another fantasy paint scheme. Anybody know what the story is? BBB?

My understanding is that there is no steam in this catalog. Wishing otherwise.
Guess we'll see next week when the leaks start getting reported or the catalog gets released.

Last I talked to my LHS owner, he said that MTH was not cataloging Steam engines until they got caught up on production.

Since No MTH steamers are due until May, and they have at least a solid year+ of backlog I do not expect to see Steam engines in this catalog.

The bright lining in this cloud?

ALL new Steam engines from now on will be PS3 with wireless tether. WooHoo!!!

My new Northern is now scheduled for May.

I believe we already saw an announcement from MTH that there would be no steam in this catalog but they planned on it returning in the 2013 catalogs. That means Oct York.

Since Lionel put a Grand Trunk Western ACF Center Flow Covered Hopper in their current catalog, it will happen that there will be one in the new MTH Volume 2 catalog as well.
