I think we need more N&W Class J's. Like the N&W Class J Atlantic and the Class J 4-4-0. I would love to see the Commodore Vanderbilt 4-4-0. How about a 19th Century 2-8-0 in Carolina, Clinchfield & Ohio. A Virginian 4-4-0, Deepwater 4-4-0, Tidewater 4-4-0. Original Norfolk Southern 4-4-0. Kanawha & Michigan Mikado.  2-8-8-2 Interstate. RF&P Northern. Virginian Pacific or Mikado.
How can I forget this one; a 2-8-0 Death Valley. It can be done for Halloween, As a Clemson University set or even the old tourist railroad...So many things with that road name.

I know we're all talking O3R-speak here.

OTOH, MTH is actively into HO and S, and even Large Scale.   Tinplate?......questionable.

I'm not sure that the dearth of new tooling applies equally to these other scales.

The common pot of investment $$$ probably flows to the best ROI potentials.

A new O3R rolling stock item or accessory is perhaps more a possibility than a locomotive.

But I LOVE surprises! I w

I'm only talking about 3 rail premier. Not any other scale that they are into.

Seems like it has been a lot of Christmas LED lit & Halloween rolling stock lately. Just when I though they've built everything I'd want, something new comes out and I want that too!

I doubt will see anything new.  Just the same old stuff over and over.

The days of MTH being a leader in the O gauge market are over.  Mike has moved on to HO.

I expect nothing, so I can’t be disappointed.  Unfortunately, the last MTH item I purchased was the 44 tonner and nothing from the last six plus catalogs.

As it was explained to my by a Lionel rep, the license fees that would be charged by Siemens would likely prohibit an O gauge manufacturer from producing the ACS-64 (just not enough volume to make it a good business decision).

In addition, they would try to prohibit the manufacturer from producing "fantasy" schemes in order to sell more units as O gauge makers tend to do. I doubt we'll see the ACS-64 from MTH or Lionel anytime soon.

Ron, you might be right about license fees being prohibitively high, but would they definitely charge them? Did GE charge them for the Genesis?

It would surprise me if a prohibition on fantasy schemes would be a deal-killer. I'm not aware of there being fantasy schemes for the Genesis or the Acela.

How about a DCS reboot?  One that doesn't require special wiring or "magic lightbulbs" and that just consistently works.  I know its flawless for some folks, but many experience constant issues like we did. The DCS suite and premier line offers the highest degree of sophistication but we got rid of all our MTH locomotives and have no desire to buy any more due to the functionality of DCS.  A reboot might bring us back.

Odd, my CTA 6000 pulls the three trailers, two 3200 trailers, and a freight train:

I live about 20 minutes away from Clemson University so I’d totally be in for a Clemson set!

I asked Ford to reboot the automobile once. I'd like to never have to do any of the regular maintenance, buy gas (or rechargeable batteries), replace tires, worry about the battery going out and remove all of the other components that caused me trouble in the past. They should only build cars that just consistently work. I know Fords are flawless for some folks, but many experience constant issues like I did. I told them it might bring me back to buying Ford vehicles again.

I see yours is in the middle of the consist.  My 30-20518-1 does not do very well when it is in the lead.  It would probablyu do better in the middle, but so goes the headlight.  Clean track, clean rubbers and a lot of wheel spinning.  When put in auto-mode it will spin at start-up.  I bought mine from the 2018 volume 1.  It also gets pretty warm when you try to pull 3 or 4 cars.  Not a deal breaker, but would be nice to have access to purchase a single powered car.

Also, "how do I not know that is not a 20 wrapped around a bunch of ones?"

By the way, that is odd.

I like how MTH is making the most of their holiday lights feature and their take on the "Polar" paint scheme as shown in the most recent RTR catalog.  It would be nice to see:

  • An updated doodlebug with more add-on details.
  • An imperial grade Railking GG1 in the PRR silver/red stripe AND the #4800 Conrail bicentennial red/white/blue schemes.
  • Premier new tooling of the Amtrak Siemens ACS64 (which are cataloged by various N and HO companies) and/or new Siemens Charger series
  • I'd also like to see MTH continue to improve their locomotive sound file quality.  IMO, over the years MTH made marked improvements in this area, especially extended startup/shutdown, diesel prime mover, clickety-clack enhancements and PFA announcements.  However the MTH steam sound is still in need of improvement, especially once you get to speeds above 10 smph where the MTH chuff is noticeably shallow or lacking bass as compared to Lionel's fuller sound.

I know...I am dreaming.

How about this...6-car set would be nice...but, I think Lionel owns the old Weaver molds.

Seaboard Coast Line 3-Bay Offset Hopper

Well, I did not experience the ACL/SAL/SCL at all, directly. There was Seaboard in Alabama, but not on the Gulf Coast. But - one of my favorite diesel schemes is the ACL/SCL black/yellow, especially on the E6. I like the scheme so much that I painted/decaled an old, short MPC "U-30-something" to emulate one of the actual SCL U18 "Baby Boats". It is a surprisingly close match with the U18. (Ignore the pilot gap, please.) Lowering the fuel tank really helped with the looks.

So, yes, something with this scheme (especially the E6, and especially ACL) would make me notice.

Purple? I don't like the color in general, especially on locomotives and muscle cars.

Yes.  We bought the Rev. L back in approx 2011.  Nonstop issues. Finally sold off all our MTH locomotives - ridiculous trying to get my twin 8 year old sons into this "fun" hobby when at every turn the trains wouldn't run and it turned into a day of trouble-shooting and looking for forumites to help. Meanwhile, when it worked, there's nothing like it - automatic random crew chatter, Doppler, playing music through speakers, check electrical power throughout layout, etc.

If you want that you have to do what I did and switch over to DCC. Fortunately, I still get to use MTH locomotives as long as they are PS3. I am a big MTH fan but I also had DCS issues. DCS does some really wonderful things but what is most important to me in a command control system is that when I send a command the locomotive responds each and every time and I get that with DCC.

Now back to your regularly scheduled thread.

What would I like to see in the next catalog? How about a small NYC locomotive in scale wheels. It seems only large locomotives get the scale wheel option.

I forgot the 800 pound gorilla in the room. Mike, please make a Premier handheld remote for the people who would like to purchase it.  Cost should not be that much of a factor, considering we pay almost $2000 for a new engines.   This is a time that MTH can shine.

You may pay $2000 for new engines but I surly don't along with many others.

You can buy new remotes now. I have two and will most likely never need to buy another one.

I was told that Siemens would absolutely charge Lionel...I can only assume it would be the same for MTH.

In addition to the license fees, Siemens said the would require 60 or so units to go the Corporate HQ so they could be used as gifts, etc. Given the relatively small numbers produced and sold in O as compared to HO, that is a pretty big nut.

This info is over a year old, so things may have changed.

MTH is definitely less prone to making fantasy schemes on Premier products (which I would think the ACS-64 would fall under), so it might not be a deal killer for them. Lionel on the other hand is much more apt to want to make fantasy schemes on full size scale locos.

Not sure on GE.
