It's their license, they can charge what they want and set whatever conditions.  Siemens is an approximate 93 billion dollar world-wide company.

Lionel, MTH and/or the model railroad community are just grains of that sand.

Rusty

That’s fine that it’s their license, but don’t see what the issue with allowing a company to build a model and be reasonable about it. Don’t have these problems with GE, EMD, etc.

If they did a remote that would have a quilling whistle slider like legacy, I'd be in.

I doubt it. The WIU and app is the future going forward.

I agree, they won't change.  I hope my eyesight and my fingers do not degrade in the future.  I would hope that one does not outgrow this hobby.  If eyes or dexterity is a problem for someone, this would be a bigger problem.  We arent getting any younger.

And it's not like the APP is the end-all & be-all.

MTH can still elect to build a physical remote that would operate via the WIU or TIU (current TIUs are still sole with the 900MHz transceiver).

The app can also be easily upgraded with a cheap API to allow add-on gaming controllers to interface an control functions & features. now you would attach you tablet or phone to a handled controller that gives you the physical buttons you want.

Oh I agree. I find the app very user friendly but miss the physical buttons for whistle/horn/direction as those are easy to find with muscle memory. Using an existing physical universal controller would save the cost of developing a proprietary remote but also give those who want physical buttons something they can use.

What about a bad case of Parkinson's disease or Arthritis:

There is an older member in our train club that has Parkinson's and operating the (DCS & Legacy) remotes with there tiny buttons is extremely difficult, let alone holding them like we do. The app with larger buttons ( on a 11 inch tablet) and the use of a weighted stylus has been much easier for him to use. Before the apps, he was limited to conventional operation only.

Since MTH has already re-run a few of the NS Heritage units in Premier, I'd like to see a re-issue of the NS 1065 Savannah & Atlanta Heritage unit (20-20275-1 in 2013 v2)  and this time, getting the broad white stripe in the correct size and location as well as painting the lettering in Dulux Gold.  The S&A tuxedo is a great scheme, but unfortunately was not done well in MTH Premier during the 2013 NS Heritage run.  Interestingly, the HO and RailKing versions were painted closer to prototype.

Yes it is their license and they can charge what they want but I would still tell them to pound sand. Siemens is just taking advantage of thier size.

Besides the engine is not that cool anyway.

The engineer taught me how to drive it and how to lash up the engines together on the computer system, and it was so cool. My little brothers were not a thrilled as I was because they did not get to ride in the cab as it was too crowded. The engineers were so nice and I would love to buy this engine so I can always remember that great experience I had, as well as control the same engine once again, but just in a smaller version.

I thought I had seen it somewhere!

I bought that, and there was a HUGE graphic error, plus the markings were not what was shown in the catalog, and the ACTUAL TRAILER length was only 40' long.

They have 40' trailers, can they please put the right graphics on the right trailer.

As it was explained to my by a Lionel rep, the license fees that would be charged by Siemens would likely prohibit an O gauge manufacturer from producing the ACS-64 (just not enough volume to make it a good business decision).

In addition, they would try to prohibit the manufacturer from producing "fantasy" schemes in order to sell more units as O gauge makers tend to do. I doubt we'll see the ACS-64 from MTH or Lionel anytime soon.

Ron, you might be right about license fees being prohibitively high, but would they definitely charge them? Did GE charge them for the Genesis?

It would surprise me if a prohibition on fantasy schemes would be a deal-killer. I'm not aware of there being fantasy schemes for the Genesis or the Acela.

I was told that Siemens would absolutely charge Lionel...I can only assume it would be the same for MTH.

In addition to the license fees, Siemens said the would require 60 or so units to go the Corporate HQ so they could be used as gifts, etc. Given the relatively small numbers produced and sold in O as compared to HO, that is a pretty big nut.

This info is over a year old, so things may have changed.

MTH is definitely less prone to making fantasy schemes on Premier products (which I would think the ACS-64 would fall under), so it might not be a deal killer for them. Lionel on the other hand is much more apt to want to make fantasy schemes on full size scale locos.

Not sure on GE.

Isn’t MTH making the new Siemens loco in NJT livery already?

ACL BLE Ore Car in N Scale

I know...I am dreaming.

How about this...6-car set would be nice...but, I think Lionel owns the old Weaver molds.

Seaboard Coast Line 3-Bay Offset Hopper

Well, I did not experience the ACL/SAL/SCL at all, directly. There was Seaboard in Alabama, but not on the Gulf Coast. But - one of my favorite diesel schemes is the ACL/SCL black/yellow, especially on the E6. I like the scheme so much that I painted/decaled an old, short MPC "U-30-something" to emulate one of the actual SCL U18 "Baby Boats". It is a surprisingly close match with the U18. (Ignore the pilot gap, please.) Lowering the fuel tank really helped with the looks.

So, yes, something with this scheme (especially the E6, and especially ACL) would make me notice.

DSCN1577

Purple? I don't like the color in general, especially on locomotives and muscle cars.

OOPS !PURPLE CHALLENGER

Yeah - that's the purple one that I don't like. My 2014 Challenger is silver.

Now, if someone wanted a fantasy ACL 4-6-6-4 Challenger in purple (w/white domes?)....maybe Lionel would be more up for it than MTH. After all, they "gave" us Daylight AC-9's.
