Having trouble operating reefer cars with a CW80 Transformer. Can't get the doors to operate even after several attempts to press the proper bell/whistle buttons.  Was able to get the music to play, but that's as far as I could get in this sequence.  I can get all the PSA sounds and also freight yard sounds.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The CW-80 is not listed as a compatible transformer in the operator's manual (p.24) It may be the way that the bell button operates that is not sending the proper sequence. Hopefully, someone has this train and can share their actual experience. My friend that has this train is away on a trip. If you don't get an answer, I'll check when he returns.

My wife gave me that set a few years back for Christmas. I fooled with it about a hour and it's been in the box since. I had the same problems trying to run it in a conventional mode pushing all the buttons. never worked right.

I think that Gilly has it correct.

I have already decided to go ahead and get the full DCS system so I will have TMCC/Legacy and DCS. That is if it ever gets back on the market and available.???? With a lot of PS engines I have just been prolonging the pain of purchasing one.

I will say that this train gets more attention than any other on my layout.

People love it.

And with Full DCS you can operate the doors on the reefers any time along with other things.

Be sure to stock up on smoke fluid, this train makes lots of smoke !

I recommend Megasteam's Beer scent, it just fits.

PS Many of MTH's trains don't like the CW-80. Especially the older ones and this train has been around for years. They Re-issue it periodically and it always sells out.

Hard to say if they can keep making it now that Coors has chopped off Licensing but I suspect it's grab while you can.

I am also a huge fan of the MTH Silver Bullet set. I got it from Marty on this forum about 2 years ago (along with extra reefer cars and a tail car).

If I could change anything on the Silver Bullet it would be the music track.  The song (loosely based on "Love Train" by the O'Jays) gets tired fast. If only there was a way to replace the song with another one.

QUESTION: Is the MTH Silver Bullet set a one-time run? Any chance MTH will re-issue this stunning train?

DCS is currently available from just about any dealer that had it on order,

And to anyone who is new to MTH's DCS system you NEED to have Barry Broskowitz's book about the DCS system.

I've been using the DCS system for about two years and just last week I was stumped when an odd situation developed with my DCS. I grabbed Barry's book and -- POW! -- problem solved. Barry's book is indispensable (it truly is the DCS "Bible"). I keep my copy on my iPad in iBooks for quick and easy access.

Barry: if you see this post, please provide a link where people can order your DCS book.

Thanks for the info Barry.

I ordered it the other day from Charlie and it should be in the mail today.

I have had your book for a year so now the studying really starts. Especially since I have the Legacy still in the box as well. My rebuild has only been tested with TMCC.. should get real interesting around here by the end of the year with all the unknowns.  Still having fun.

Terrance,

I made a 45 second edited version of Love Train recording and put under custom sounds. Works great. You need the locomotive with the set to activate the reefer secquence as they have a special receiver and decoder. Some of the reefers have sliding shoes on the trucks that can be rewired to operate off of a operating track.

Thank you, Chuck, for reminding me that the MTH DCS system allows us to record custom sounds for playback on our engines. For the Coors Silver Bullet, this is a fantastic option.

I just consulted my copy of The DSC O Gauge Companion (ebook on my iPad) to get the directions on how to record and playback custom sounds.

My question is this: do I use the DSC remote's microphone to record the sound? Is there another way to get a custom sound into my TIU (I believe the custom sound files are actually stored in the TIU and not in the engine).

Any guidance you can offer is much appreciated.

Thanks,

Terrence

Thanks for all your help.  It worked with the Mike's transformer.

Thank you for all your help!  Got it working.  Will be purchasing a full DCS system for better operation.
