Can any train be put on a DCS remote system?
Replies sorted oldest to newest
Only MTH locomotives with proto 2 or 3 electronics will run on DCS system. TMCC by Lionel can be operated using the DCS remote, TIU and Command Base in a limited capability.
Conventional and Legacy locos work as well. Pretty much will run everything.
How do I know if my train has proto 1 or 2?

Check the original box (on the end) and instructions packed within the box.
Gentlemen,
The only train engine I know of that can not be run, under some kind of DCS control are the Lion King and LK+ stand alone engines, all others can be run in some mode. IMO Eventually the bridge for LK stand alone to DCS & Legacy will be engineered, either by one of the big companies or an independent contractor like ERR.

Lion Chief 'Plus' engines can also run in conventional and can be run with a DCS system in conventional mode. That leaves only Lion Chief set that won't run with DCS control, but they will run on a DCS layout using their own specific remote controller.
