So I have the MTH E train Subway set with PS1....it never gets run because a just don't bother with conventional running of trains anymore...it is very lonely  sitting on my shelf...has anyone ever upgraded this to DCS PS2 or PS3? Is it possible? Worth It? Will upgrading it detract from its historical value because of the fact that it  it has "Word Train Center" station stops?   This set  was made before the towers were destroyed .... Looking for any opinions...

If memory serves, these call out stops with the (limited compared to P2/P3) controls provided by the QSI system.

Those sounds would certainly be lost, and there has never been a similar set with P2 or P3 offered so far (I'm pretty sure), so you would have a set with mis-matched station stop sounds vs signage.  That to me would certainly be a detractor.  I'd think if you want a more up to date subway set to run with P2/P3, you'd be better off selling it and buying a newer model.

There may even be a hardware difference for the "auto mode" the P2/P3 subways have.  I don't know if you can buy that board with an upgrade kit or not?

Dave,

The PS3 upgrade board will accommodate DCS station stops. It uses a Chain file specific to subways and trollies. A PS2 upgrade would require a PS2 board that has the proper flash code for subways and trollies, which cannot be installed via the either the Consumer or Service versions of the DCS Loader Program.
