MTH ENGINE HELP

GRRR! This is time number two. I have bought two railking steamers, one from a member of this forum and the other via Ebay, and both do the same thing. Place on the track, when powered up, all that works are the front lights. Is this a sign both have a worn out battery, if so, what is the best place to buy new ones, and do I need to buy a charger? Other steamers work just fine. I use a MTH Z1000 transformer.

I'm no expert but you need to give a little more info. Are the engines proto 1 or proto 2 ? How old are they ? I had a diesel that acted like that...I had to leave it on the tracks for a couple of hours with voltage on to put some charge on the battery and then all was okay. I then went out and bought the charger to plug into the bottom of the engine. Now I plug in the charger a day or so before I set up carpet central
