I bought a 5 car set of the Madison passenger cars to go with the coming visionline gg-1 and find them very nice. they are also pretty heavy as well.
Does anyone have these cars or any other of the MTH heavy weight passenger cars and what do you think of them? how do they run.

I like them a lot. They have evolved over the years. Are yours fairly recent? They had some issues with zinc rot around 2005 issue but they seem to all be good now.

yes. mine are brand new so I should not have the rot problem.

If these are the 60 foot Madison cars be careful of the steps on the rear of the observation car. I had one that broke off just because I looked at it :-) They are very fragile and can even snap off if packed too tightly in the original styrofoam. That is what happened to mine.
mine are the 70 foot cars but I will take a look at the area you are pointing out as weak.

The MTH Premier Heavyweights are generic type designs but they are quite representative of heavyweight cars that received some upgrades In their service life. The most obvious is the inclusion of air conditioning ducts on the roof adjacent to the clerestory on one side of the car. If you bought a 5 striper GG1 you are pretty prototypic.
I have an early set of MTH PRR heavyweights as well as a Boston and Maine set. Both are quite nice in my opinion.
