Hey everyone! I just thought I would share this video I made of my MTH Nickel Plate Road 765 with sound dubs from the 765 in real life. It took quite a few shots to get the speed and timing right but I think the final product came out nicely. I road the 765 this past summer from Rocky River to Bellevue, Ohio and recreated that consist in this video. The sounds were also taken from my personal home videos of the locomotive. Enjoy!

That took some timing for sure.
I also have a Nickel Plate Road setup and your original whistle is soooo much better.
Did you actually record the original sound to the chip in the locomotive or just make a sound bite and play it when the train goes by, because you can even hear the wheels grinding from the passenger cars.

I was fortunate enough to ride that excursion tip as well....with my 89 year-old grandfather....and you've done a great job replcating that day's consist. The Norfolk & Western tool car (I believe it's a tool car - could be wrong) behind the tender followed by the Pennsy diesel is a great touch. Your choice in passenger cars is nice, too.

Very well done, Jason. I am into the audio/video stuff as well, and I can appreciate the amount of time it took to sync that up. When I've finally made the last edit and sit back and punch "play" for the first time, the satisfaction of seeing it all come together is thrilling. In the 60's, I rode the Narrow Gauge Silverton line with my 8 mm camera and a portable tape recorder with 3" reels. Just recently, I grabbed the audio off that tape and synced it up with the movie that was transferred to digital. It was so much fun. Your idea of mating the 765 audio up with a model train was very clever and most enjoyable.
Not trying to hijack this thread - wonderful combo of the live sound and the model. Going to try to post a video (not on youtube, just here) from last year's Horseshoe Curve run. Love the whistle. Video quality is poor - I had exposure on manual, and the sun popped out while the train was going by. Also, the file is about 10 meg.

I'm doing the same thing, but virtually, I have a railroad simulator for PC called Trainz 12 and there is a payware Nickel Plate High Speed Freight Set with a renumberable Berkshire in it, with a good chuff, whistle and bell sound. I had a guy make me an aux. tender based off the N&W ex-L&N "Big Emma" tender, and I reskinned a car into the Fort Wayne crew/tool car, and I bought a payware set of NS heritage diesels. And I found coaches from an Italian site that almost match the ones that NS is using, so I reskinned some into NS's excursion and business cars, and I have some other coaches reskinned into Mid America, and I will also have the Dover Harbor and Kitchi Gammi Club Pullman cars as well, by lettering them that way. One green, and one red. I will have various routes in Trainz for my 765 excursion train to travel on, including a mega route of NJ and PA lines stretching from Bound Brook, NJ to Horseshoe Curve, and Reading to Philadelphia. Mostly NS lines that were previously Conrail, Penn Central/PRR, Reading, Lehigh Valley, etc. I just saw some new to me vids taken 1988 of the 765 on Conrail ex. Reading lines (now NS) in eastern PA. Like this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RtXCE1JjAt8 What made those trips in NJ and eastern PA the worst in 765's career? Was it the trips themselves, or the convention in NJ, or both? I already read the horror stories on other sites. 765 was going pretty darn fast on the mainline there, looked faster than 40 mph, and I thought Conrail had a speed limit for steam excursions then of 35 mph because Blue Mountain & Reading ran trips on Conrail, too until 1988 just a few years they did them, and they could go 50 mph on their own 13 mile line from Temple to South Hamburg but only 35 mph on Conrail. A few years later the BM&R bought the anthracite lines north of Reading from Conrail and started the Reading, Blue Mountain and Northern, and bought the Lehigh Line from Lehighton, PA to Mehoopany, PA and a few branches a few years later. For a short while from Sept. 1985-Oct. 1991 we got to see an ex-Reading T-1 run on ex-Reading rails. The original 14 mile BM&R line north of Reading was ex-PRR.
