So I got this trolley I bought from my pal for $20, hadn't run for at least ten years, pulled the power truck off, cleaned up the gears and it ran in forward and reverse, was advised on this forum to get rid of the white battery and put in a BCR type to maybe get the sound on. Put the BCR red battery I bought from a train dealer in, the horn started making squawking sound and it ran in one direction only. Resigned my self to use it without sound, put the white battery back in, put it on the track, did the reset procedure, ran it for a few minutes and now it lights up but does not move. Is this end of the road for this trolley. Thanks for your help earlier on this. Bill Makel

Bill,
When operating with a bcr, you have to turn on your transformer to 12 volts or less and charge the bcr for 60 seconds before trying to run in forward.

It could be the end of the road!? Any time you see a white battery throw it out! Put in a new MTH green battery but make sure you charge it first. If I buy an engine from anyone I don't put any voltage to it before I do that. How do I know you ask? Because I've learned the hard way! Hopefully the board isn't cooked. Good luck.
I wouldn't call the scrappers yet! While sound might be more than you want to invest, an inexpensive electronic E-unit will give you both direction operation. A diode will give you one direction operation!
If you list it on the forum for what you paid for it, I bet you'll quickly sell it.
