I have on order a GP38-2 CSX MTH Diesel&an SD40-2 CSX. They're 3 rail versions to be conveted to 2 rail. The SD40 will come outfitted with scale wheels but the couplers will need to go & be replaced with the new Protocraft couplers as will the couplers on the GP38. The 38 will be my job to replace the wheels which I was told is as hard as taking out a few screws on the side frames, taking the 3 rail axles out & putting the scale axles in, reattaching the screws, throwing the 3/2 rail current switch & away we go. Is that correct?
About the pilots. I know nothing about rebuilding these,so aside from appearance, will it bother operation to leave them as is? By operation, I'll have probably 50" mainline curves with no less than 44" curves on sidings, probably larger radii there too,so will there be sideswiping cars on adjacent tracks by the pilots not being fixed or coupling problems?
Thank you,&Happy Thanksgiving to all!!
